It's all about the center...

I’ve been thinking a lot about the centerpieces. Since I plan on making a lot of the decorations, I’m having a hard time deciding. At the beginning, I wanted to do varying vases full of Lemons and Blueberries. I want to stay away from using flowers as much as possible because it can be quite expensive to do floral centerpieces. This is my inspiration for the first idea.

After I got thinking about it, I wasn’t sure if I was completely sold on that idea. I started looking for different inspiration. I found an awesome picture on the Internet.

There are some things I would change about this design. I wasn’t able to find a place that sold anything that resembled the green plants. I did however find a craft website that sold river rock, yellow flowers, blue string balls, and freeze dried rose petals. It’s hard to describe how I would lay everything out without a picture. Here is everything together to help you envision it.

My third and most recent idea is to take a vintage birdcage and put a candle inside. On the bottom of the birdcage, I would also sprinkle yellow rose petals. It would look a little something like this.

My mom thought it would be a good idea to have a poll to see what everyone else liked. So without further ado, please vote for your favorite idea. Who knows, I may end up using the most popular one.

Which centerpiece is your favorite?

Let them eat cake...

A few weekends ago, Matthew and I were finally able to do something wedding related. We went to our cake tasting! I wasn’t really sure what to expect but we knew pretty much what we wanted. When we arrived, we were bombarded with questions about what we had in mind. Luckily, I had a couple of inspiration pictures on hand to help them see my vision.

The top tier of our cake will be covered in yellow fondant (like the second picture) with the same type of pipping detail. But instead of white, it will be grey. The cupcakes will make up the bottom tiers. They will be covered with white butter cream and have yellow and grey flowers (like in the first picture).

Once we had decided on a design, they brought out the samples. J Yummm! They brought out four of their most popular flavors for us to try. The first one we tried was almond cake with almond cream cheese filling. It was DELICIOUS! Next up was devils food cake with chocolate gnocchi. Of course I liked it. Matthew on the other hand wasn’t as big of a fan. After that, we tried French vanilla cake with raspberry filling. I’m not a fan of raspberry filling but it wasn’t too bad. Matthew really liked that one. Last up was a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. Surprisingly, I thought it was ok. Usually I am not a fan of red velvet but this one was alright. Matthew thought it was ok too. We eventually decided that the top tier will be the almond cake. The cupcakes that will make up the bottom tiers will be devils food cake and French vanilla.

Last week, I had another follow up appointment. By the time I made it to my appointment, I was walking without crutches! I thought the day would never come!! I'm still wearing the boot but I am able to walk around. At my appointment, my doctor checked my scar to make sure it was healed. He said that for the most part it was looking good but there was a tiny, tiny portion of it that wasn't fully healed. He told me to let give it a week to heal.

Once it is healed, I can start progressing out of the boot. I was given a compression brace to assist me in walking without the boot. I opted to have a compression brace to help push the rest of the swelling out of my ankle. My doctor said that the swelling was right about where it should be. I was instructed to start doing exercises to get my range of motion back. These include the following: pointing & flexing, spelling the ABC's with my foot, and walking on it.

I go back on the 1st of March. My doctor said that after that appointment, he'll decide if I will be doing physical therapy. He hopes by that appointment, I will be able to start walking without the boot and be in regular shoes (yayy!).

A Clean Foot...

I am pleased to announce that after 6 freaking weeks, I can FINALLY wash my foot! Gross I know but it's the truth. Last night I was able to wash my foot for the first time. It still feels incredibly weird to touch it. There are areas on my foot that are still mostly numb. Another gross thing....all of my skin is can just be peeled off. Honestly, I think it's pretty awesome to peel skin off but some people are pretty repulsed by the idea. Anyways, here is a picture of my foot. Don't mind the brown substance you see on part of the scar, I didn't quite get it all off before I took the picture.

I also find it pretty cool that you can still see the stitch marks in my skin. I wonder how long it will be until they go away. Oh and sorry my foot looks rather disgusting.... :/

Other than washing my foot, I've started to put weight on it more and more each day. Although, I'm still on these blasted crutches. So far I think I can put about 25 - 30% of my weight on it while walking. If I'm just standing still, I feel like I can put a little more weight on it. I think I just have this idea in my head that my scar will rip open if I walk on it. I don't know how else to explain it, but I afraid to walk on it. It hurts a little but all in all it just feels weird after not being able to walk for over a month. Hopefully by next week I will be a little better. I have a doctors appointment on the 15th. I'm hoping that I'll be able to improve my walking by then.

I've also noticed that while in this stage, my foot tends to swell up after I've been walking around on it. From what my doctor said at my last appointment, this is a common thing. He told me to keep it elevated when I can.

Where My Ladies At...

Choosing my bridal party was probably the easiest decision in wedding planning. From day one I knew that these lovely ladies would be standing by my side on my wedding day.

Kelsi's 18th Birthday Dinner

For the first time in FOUR years, we will all be in one place at one time! They have been there for me through good times and bad. I'm so glad that I got to meet each and every one of them. My college years would not have been the same with out them.

Jessica and I met while working together at Lin's. We both started on the same day and she had asked me for a ride. We both knew each other in high school but didn't really hang out. After our first day of work, we became life long friends. From that day on, we were best friends. When she tied the knot a little over a year ago, I was able to be her Maid of Honor. Now that it is my turn, I'm so excited to have her be my Maid of Honor.

Kelsi and I met in high school. The first time I met her, I wasn't a big fan (she was dating the guy I liked). During the summer, my friend Ricci and I were hanging out and saw her. We decided to go up and talk to her. We ended up hanging out all day and even into the night. She welcomed us with open arms and I'm so glad that I had the chance to really get to know her. We have been best friends ever since.

Laura and I also met while working at Lin's. From day one, she was a fun person to be around. Eventually, I ended up moving in with her. As roomies, we had some of the best times together. We laughed, we cried and I wouldn't change anything. We will always be best friends.

Stephanie and I met through Clare. The first night we hung out, I'm pretty sure she thought we were all crazy! I'm so glad that she didn't run away scared. She has been an amazing friend and I couldn't ask for anything better.

Clare and I met while at church. She was looking for a room to rent and Laura decided we should see if she wanted to live with us. The first time we hung out with Clare, she pulled out a day planner to "pencil us in"! I will never forget that and we never let her forget that. Through the ups and downs, we always remained great friends.

Each one of these ladies mean so much to me. I don't think I would've made it to where I am without them. They truly are my BEST friends. No matter how far apart we are, we keep in touch and it's like I just saw them yesterday.

Color Me Grey, Yellow, and Navy...

Deciding on our wedding colors was something that took us a while. Originally, I wanted Aqua and Red. It would look a little something like this:

Matthew wasn't too excited about this color combination. As I thought about it more, it didn't really fit with an October wedding. While throwing around some different ideas, we both really loved the look of Grey and Yellow together. So we have decided on Grey, Yellow, and Navy Blue. This is the inspiration board that I came up with.

I'm very excited to start getting everything together. I didn't realize how stressful wedding planning can be. I'm glad that I still have 8 months left until the big day.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

Welcome to our new blog!

I've decided that since we will be tying the knot soon, a new blog was in order. I will still keep my other blog up but will probably posting more frequently on this blog. Because I'm in the begining stages of planning our October wedding, I wanted a place to share my ideas and possibly get some feed back. Of course after the wedding it will remain our blog to keep you all updated.

This Boot Was Made For Walking....

It's true!
I have been cleared to start putting weight on my foot. The only downer....I still have this grey, smelly boot....at least for now. I'm excited to start walking again. I can't imagine being on these blasted crutches for much longer. Although I'll still have to use them until I can put 100% of my weight on that foot. Hopefully I'm make great progress and be walking in no time!
Other good news, my swelling is almost completely gone. The doctor said it is looking excellent. Also, my range of motion has improved. Although it's not superb, I can point and flex it better than I could a week ago. My doctor also said that after my next appointment, I will be starting physical therapy to get my range of motion back. For now it looks as though I will be doing it at home. How you may ask? By pretending to spell the alphabet with my toes. In no time I'll be writing sentences like a pro! haha! Lastly, in a few days I'll be able to remove the dressing on my foot and actually WASH it! Gross I know but that's what happens after surgery.
